Specific Need
We have the power to transform lives. Sport is a powerful force. It can shift the focus from disability to ability, from isolation to involvement, from exclusion to inclusion. It teaches teamwork, instills compassion, and builds leaders. However, our impact goes beyond sports. Families find support. Lifelong friendships are formed. Social skills are developed. Independence is achieved. Confidence is matched. Lives are changed. Funding helps support our programming for sports practice and competition, health and fitness initiatives, leadership opportunities, and our Unified Champion Schools strategy.
Mission
Provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.Profile
Our vision is an inclusive world for all, driven by the power of sport, through which people with intellectual disabilities live active, healthy and fulfilling lives.
Special Olympics is the only global sports movement led by people with intellectual disabilities. Every day around the world, our athletes show the world that sport is a force for justice for people of all abilities. We demand dignity. We reject low expectations. We transform bias into belief. Everyone belongs at Special Olympics.
